Just installed 8 GM ram, but only 3.25 GB is usable.  Why?

Make sure that "memory remapping" or similar is set correctly in BIOS - check your motherboard manual for details on how to set it.
Does your motherboard support 8GB? If so check whether a BIOS update is needed for it to be recognised.
