Troubleshooting:A secure environment has stopped responding - ??

A secure environment has stopped responding - ??

I appreciate the help.  I am trying to work for a company that requires the pc.  When I try to sign in, sometimes it says that "the XXXX (<~compnay name) secure environment as stopped working.  Windows will contact you if a solution is found."    Sometimes
I can sign out and then back in and it will load again.  I am using Vista and IE 7.  I don't upgrade due to i dont understand all the different uploads.   Please advise both issues.  Should I upgrade pgms on here...(like service packs or something)....and
is the Environment issue a windows a issue or a company issue?? The company said I should contact you.  I have to work friday afternoon, but don't know how else to fix this.

Thank you soo much!!
