All programs in Windows 7 showing 'not responding'
I have a clean install of Windows 7 Home on a super-fast PC comprising an Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q9400 @2.66Ghz, 4GB RAM and a NVidia Ge Force 9600 GT graphics card that worked perfectly using Windows Vista.
I purchased a new Samsung 1 TB
drive just for Window 7 64 bit and the installation went flawlessly.
So I now have Vista on one drive and 7 on a completely separate drive.
This clean installation of 7 is used for my business programs, Dreamweaver CS4 and MS Office 2007 (I am also beta testing Office 2010).
No games are installed except the ones packaged with Windows 7.
My anti-virus program is Kaspersky and I use Firefox
as my primary browser.
All has been well for nearly two months but now all my programs start to hang with the message 'not responding'.
I have clean booted my system and have run Performance Troubleshooter/System and Security/Check for performance issues.
There were no problems reported except for programs that load at start up and I left these minimal entries alone.
I also checked the Event Viewer which showed multiple errors across the System and Application viewers (I have posted these online if you want to check though them -
http://www.qbs-pchelp.co.uk/Error/application-events.txt and
http://www.qbs-pchelp.co.uk/Error/system-events.txt) .
I tried a few of the suggested fixes such as turning off "media features" and rebuilding the Indexing Options but to no avail.
The problems persist.
I never get a blue screen error.
It’s always a 'not responding' message across multiple programs including Outlook, Word, Excel, Windows Live Writer, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Photoshop and the snipping tool!
It seems that most posts say that this is a problem with Windows 7.
It certainly looks this way, as using this Operating System for business is becoming increasingly difficult.

Download SmartPCFixer to Fix It (Free)
Note that disabling an AV software's real-time scanning function is not the same as removing the AV software.
The drivers remain loaded and active, and it is quite likely that its AV modules are still loaded into the address space of all (most) processes.
You "Tried repetitive copying and pasting of blocks of text and started to get 'not responding’ errors again." - did you do this in notepad? Can you use Task Manager to take a process memory dump of the process that's not responding, when it's in that
state?
Have you checked into Process Explorer, Process Monitor, Resource Monitor, etc.?
Boot in Safe Mode:
- Open Run command as previously described
- Type MSConfig
- Click on Boot tab
- Tick Safe boot in Boot option
- Select Network
- Click Apply and OK
- Reboot your system
Your system will boot in Safe mode with Networking. You may now try and open Windows Store and should not see any errors.
