all my files changed into Windows Media Center files , I cannot access applications

Hi,
After downloading some document on the internet, it asked me to open with some applications, I chose Windows Media Center (WMC); then all shortcuts on the desktop, on the Start menu and on all the different disks and also all the ‘.exe’ files have
changed into WMC files.
When I double click on any file or shortcut WMC opens.
This way I ca
nnot install any new application, in addition I’ve lost the access to many applications.
NB: I can access MS Word, for instance, via opening a .doc file and IE via a html page saved on the Pc, however, I cannot access other applications which have not specific files, example Skype, cmd, …
Please help me
